Accelerating implementation: new ISO financial messaging standards and how they impact the Russian/CEE financial landscape

Matthieu de Heering

Abstract

SWIFT

ISO Standards for financial service messaging have supported the growth in efficiency, STP and internationalisation since their inception. The move towards XML syntax, a more open development methodology, and a common financial dictionary is concentrated in ISO 20022. At the same time, as markets ever more diverse in geography and business area move towards adopting this standard, SWIFT’s focus now also falls on supporting the financial community in this move, through tools and support. After a quick run-through to demistify the ISO
20022 methodology, we will show concrete examples of both these new focus areas, from market infrastructures and banks in and outside the CEE region.
